October in Jacksonville, FL

October in Jacksonville, FL

Without a doubt, October is my most favorite month living in Jacksonville, FL.  It seems as if the minute the calendar turns from September 30th to October 1st there is a sudden change of weather that makes one forget about the hot, humid, sticky days of summer.  Whether at the grocery store, cleaners or cross walk, residents of Jacksonville are commenting about the beautiful weather and how lucky we are to live in such a great part of the country.  The warm, breezy afternoons entice children of all ages outside to ride bikes and play in the yard.

Since I was a child I have always looked forward to Halloween and the excitement that comes with it.  Since moving to Jacksonville, Halloween has taken on a whole new meaning when it comes to the word "celebration."  Many communities with organized HOA's and recreation centers host different Halloween-related events.  In our community of Julington Creek Plantation, not only do we have an adult "No Monsters Allowed" party, but there is also a "Little Monsters" party the same evening (aka babysitting)!!!  It is crazy to walk into Publix during the month of October to find people dressed in costumes on their way to celebrations.  As if the community parties were not enough, each subdivision turns into one big block party on October 31st.  As we walk around the neighborhood, it is great to catch up with friends and neighbors sitting in their driveways handing out candy.

In some respects, Halloween is a great night for potential buyers to visit Julington Creek or any area of interest to get a sense of the true community.  If you are contemplating making a move ask your Realtor (I vote for the Jax Realtors for Life Team) if he/she could introduce you to current homeowners so you have another resource.  And, if you are thinking about selling your home, speak with your Realtor about creative ways to market your home on Halloween.

In general, there is a spirit in the air as the city begins to get ready for the Fall and Winter holidays not to mention the biggest Tailgating Party of the year -- the Florida vs. Georgia game.  From what I understand this is HUGE weekend-long event with bands, shows, parties and more.  In fact, many people don't even attend the football game. I have never been, but this year I am looking forward to seeing for myself what all the hoopla is about.  Who knows...perhaps this Florida tradition will give me one more reason to love the month of October in Jacksonville, FL.
